The balloon sweater has balloon sleeves that begin well below the shoulders, thus only emphasizing the tight-fitting cuffs at the wrist. The balloon sweater is knitted from the top down. At the beginning of the yoke, shoulder increases are worked at the same time as short rows for the neckline. The front and back are then knitted separately (in rows in stockinette stitch). The work is gathered back onto one needle below the armholes, and the rest of the body is knitted on circular needles. Stitches are picked up around the armholes for the sleeves, which are then knitted in the round on circular needles and finally on double-pointed needles (or using the magic loop method). This means that the balloon sweater does not need to be sewn, except for the threads at the end.
Size Guide
The balloon sweater should have a positive ease of approximately 10-15 cm in relation to your chest measurement. Sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL fit a chest measurement of 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100) 100-110 (110-120) 120-130 cm. The measurements of the finished sweater are on the front (note that these measurements only apply if the gauge is adhered to). Measure your chest (or the widest part of your body) before you start knitting to determine the size that fits you best. For example, if your chest is 94 cm, you should choose size M. A size M sweater has a chest measurement of 110 cm and in this case would have a positive ease of 16 cm.
