The ZOE Shirt is a simple mohair shirt with dropped shoulders and a round neckline. The shirt can be knitted in different variations. The slim version has slightly dropped shoulders, while the wide version features batwing sleeves.

The ZOE Shirt is knitted top-down in one piece. Increases along the shoulder form the stitches for the back and front panels. After the desired width is reached, the front and back panels are knitted separately until below the armhole. Then, both parts are rejoined, and decreases are worked in rounds until the body has reached the desired circumference. The length of the shirt can be adjusted individually. Instructions for adjusting the width are provided in the pattern.

The hem is bound off directly with the I-cord method. For the neckline, stitches are first picked up around the neck and then bound off with the I-cord method.

NEEDLES

Needle tips: 4.5 mm (I-Cord bind-off), 5.5 mm (wrong-side rows) and 6 mm (right-side rows)

Cable: 60 and 60 to 100 cm depending on size

GAUGE and SWATCH

Stockinette stitch (right-side rows knit, wrong-side rows purl): 16 stitches x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm

using 6 mm needles on right-side rows and 5.5 mm needles on wrong-side rows, or choose needle sizes to match gauge.

Since my purl stitches tend to be larger than my knit stitches, I choose a smaller needle size for the wrong-side rows. This is just a tip; choose needle sizes to match your gauge.

ACCESSORIES

The increases on the shirt are marked with different colored stitch markers (MM) so you can easily distinguish the individual parts:

  • 4 MM-F1 (Color 1) Shoulder stitches
  • 4 MM-F2 (Color 2) Shoulder increases
  • 4 MM-F3 (Color 3) Neckline increases (2 x 1), edge stitches (2 x 2)
  • 1 MM-RA (Color 4) Round beginning

Cords or threads for holding stitches, tapestry needle, scissors

KNITTING TECHNIQUES
